End-to-End Green Chemistry
From beginning to end, Hiray is all about Green Chemistry. In the research and development stage, we try our best to select raw materials that are harmless and non-toxic. In the synthesis process, we prefer routes that produce the least waste with safer reaction processes. It may be harder to develop such processes, but we have the technical capabilities to overcome the obstacles.
Even our equipment is chosen with the environment, health, and safety in mind. When we select equipment, we determine if the manufacturer shares our values for environmental protection. We also seek to reduce waste by purchasing equipment that will last the longest. A discarded instrument will impact our environment for hundreds of years. We can reduce that kind of waste by purchasing quality equipment, even if it costs more.
RTO, DCS, GDS, SIS: The ABC's of Green Chemistry
Our commitment to Green Chemistry is also evident in our plant design and construction. All exhaust gas and effluent liquids are treated before being released into the environment to avoid any kind of pollution. Our regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) can remove 99.5% of volatile organic compounds from up to 10,000 m3 per hour with a 95% heat recovery rate.
Our waste-water treatment system is capable of effectively reducing the biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) in the waste-water stream, which is also monitored for pH and levels of ammonia and phosphorous. All rainwater that falls on the property is also carefully tested with a design capacity of 1,000 cubic meters.
Culture of Safety
Another important component of our Green Chemistry DNA is the protection of employee health. We undertake many occupational safety measures. We provide our employees with the best personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus available on the market today. And of course, training is a key component of our safety culture. Safety training never stops at Hiray. Each month, we spotlight a particular safety issue. Whether it’s a focus on special equipment or a special topic, such as static electricity, we work hard to build a culture of safety in each worker: head, heart, and hands.
We constantly monitor our waste gas and effluent water for contamination and our workspaces for excessive noise.
To ensure our workers are kept safe, our plant has been built with a Siemens Distributed Control System (DCS) and Gas Detection System (GDS), as well as an ABB Safety Instrumented System (SIS) with video surveillance.

We are in the business of making medicine, and we produce medicine to heal others and save people. The last thing we want to do is harm people in the process of making this medicine. So, we pay careful attention to safety, environmental protection, and occupational health to engage in the health industry in a healthy way.
